Expedition has been created as a navigational tool for yacht races. It provides a large set of features that can help finding the best path in the waters in order to make the most of the weather and the vessel’s capabilities.

Clear-cut, appealing interface

In many cases Expedition requires separate feeds for instrument and GPS data because the instruments do not provide position. In the case of Ockam, both instrument and position are available on a single feed, simplifying the hookup.

Connecting Expedition by serial port

Most systems only have serial output, so most systems are connected this way. If your Ockam system does not include GPS data (001 system without an 041 interface), you will also have to connect your GPS via a second serial port.

Setup

1. Instruments… / Serial and Network ports.
2. Select the serial port that is connected to the Ockam system.
3. Select Ockam from the instruments dropdown list.
4. Select Baud rate (usually 9600), Data bits (usually 8), Parity (usually None), Stop bits (always 1) and Boat (always 0). If Handshake is present, select None.
5. Check Use position fix. If Validate checksum is present, uncheck it.
6. Press OK.

You may have to adjust step 4 settings to get correct input. The most common alternate settings are 4800 baud and/or 7 data bits.

Connecting Expedition by UDP broadcast

Connecting via the UDP broadcast provides several advantages over the simple serial connection (your laptop needs an active Ethernet or WiFi port if you want to use this option).

• All data is carried over a single channel.
• Multiple apps on the same and other machines can all connect to the same UDP broadcast.
• The UDP broadcast can also drive EyeApp ™, allowing mobies to display instrument output.

Setup

1. First, set up the OS5 driver.
2. Instruments… / Serial and Network ports.
3. If there is no Network 0 showing, Cancel and select Instruments… / Number of Network ports, enter 1 and OK. Then repeat step 2.
4. Select Network 0.
5. Select Ockam from the instruments dropdown list.
6. Select UDP Tx and Rx from the Connections dropdown list.
7. Check Use position fix. If Validate checksum is present, uncheck it.
8. Enter 5005 (or your UDP clone port as set in Driver setup) in Port.
9. Press OK.
